5 TYPES OF HAIR DAMAGE

The health of your hair makes a big difference to the way your hair will look and feel. When you’re with us in the salon, it can also play a part in what service we offer, how your hair will behave and the result.

4 out of the 5 types of damage occur outside of the salon, meaning even the most virgin hair (hair untreated by colour or bleach) can be damaged or can break from the most mundane lifestyle choices.

Being aware of how damage generally occurs on a day-to-day basis is the best way of preventing unnecessary stress to your hair AND along with the use of Olaplex products, we can work together to fix any current damage and prevent more.

Let’s look at each of the points, how they are a risk factor and what can be done to help prevent the stress on the hair…

1) Environment

We can’t get away from this one! At many points of a day we will go outside. Our hair is then exposed to the environment, whether this be gorgeous sunshine, harsh wind, or cold and drying weather, and all of these can unfortunately cause hair damage. Whatever the factors may be, OLAPLEX treatments and products are always the right remedy. Addressing damage from the inside out helps ensure the hair is constantly in a state of repair.

2) Mechanical Friction

Think about anything that rubs against the hair. We’re talking about hairbrushes – hair accessories – hair ties – your pillow (yes, even that!)  We’d be lying if we said we never roughly pull at the hair to detangle when in a rush or put your hair up to exercise. Whilst it’s easy to say, “just stop doing this,” we know that life must happen, and it’s unrealistic. Who can honestly say they will never tie their hair up again? Your head must lie on something when you go to sleep, right?! It’s all about the way these things are managed that can make the difference between hair stress or healthier hair.

Choose a silk pillowcase to allow the hair to glide and sit smoothly. Choose the spring-like hair bobbles to tie your hair back instead of bands. Use Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil on damp hair before detangling.

There is so much more you can do with the OLAPLEX range to treat hair often and reverse damage internally. Our favourites are the at-home Intensive Bond Building Treatment Nº.0 with the Nº.3 Hair Perfector.

3) Pollution

Pollution is a stressor to so many things in our environment. Pollution is pretty much everywhere these days and imagine your hair as a sponge absorbing these chemicals, damaging particles, and pollution in the air, causing it to break off.

4) Hot Tools

The hair’s silent killer… hot tools! This is your hot tools and straighteners, curling irons, hair dryers, pretty much anything hot that we use on the hair to style it. Some of these tools can heat up to 260ºC, a temperature your hair is not designed to withstand at all. While gentler temperatures and a much lower setting is the way to go when you must use hot tools on your hair, keep the usage as low as possible. Using OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil is a great way to protect against heat up to 232ºC!

5) Chemical Services

The most obvious of them all is chemical damage. Whether it’s a colour service or a texture service, chemicals can unfortunately fast track damage. At Pure Emporium hair salon, we offer OLAPLEX, which can be added into any of our colour services. Sometimes this will be highly recommended to you depending on the health of your hair and the service you require. OLAPLEX works to rebuild broken hair bonds and prevent any further damage. Keep your locks in great condition by using OLAPLEX at home, recommended by your stylist.
