Laser/IPL Hair Removal

For Hair Removal anywhere on the body.

WHAT WILL THE TREATMENT DO?

Melanin in the hair absorbs light from the Laser / IPL and produces heat. This heat damages the hair and the follicle in such a way that it prevents and stops hair growth. This will only work with the hairs in the “growth / active” stage of the hair cycle, and once treated, they will naturally fall out within 1-3 weeks. A course of sessions is required to treat all the hairs, as they will all be in different stages of their cycle.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT?

During the treatment, the area to be treated will be:

• Cleansed

• Treated with the machine

• Light soothing moisturiser is then applied

SUN TANNED / FAKE TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED

There is a minimum of 4 weeks required since last UV sun exposure to and the skin colour must be back to it’s normal tone.

Any fake tan must also be removed from the treatment site (we recommend no fake tan for 1 week prior to treatment).

If the skin is tanned, it has a higher level of melanin in the surrounding areas to the hair. This will create more heat, and you will be susceptible to burns / blisters / pigmentation issues.

WAXING / TWEEZING / THREADING TO BE STOPPED

Due to the treatment needing to target the hair and the hair follicle, hair must be present in the follicle to be effective. Waxing / threading / tweezing or any other method of hair removal where the hair is taken form the root is not advisable for 1 month prior to treatment.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

The area being treated will be cleansed before treatment. During the treatment, you’ll be required to wear protective glasses to protect your eyes from the Light flashes. Your therapist will also be wearing glasses too. During the treatment you’ll feel a flicking sensation on the skin, and the feeling of this usually calms quickly. Cooling packs may be applied to help with the sensation as well as calming the skin. Redness on the area post-treatment is completely normal, and you may find the hair follicles will be swollen on the treatment site. This will subside within 1-2 days post-treatment. You’ll be given the aftercare to follow, at the end of your treatment.  

IS IT PAINFUL?

The best way to describe the feeling of Laser / IPL Hair Removal is a flicking sensation (imagine flicking your skin with an elastic band). It’s a very tolerable sensation, that should subside very quickly. We also offer cooling of the skin to make it even more comfortable. Certain body areas may be a little more sensitive, but nothing that isn’t tolerable. We can also adjust the machine settings to ensure your tolerance and comfort. Many clients have explained that it is more comfortable to receive than waxing.

HOW WILL THE SKIN FEEL AFTER THE TREATMENT?

All or any of the following are great outcomes:

• Redness in the treated area

• Swollen hair follicles (bumps on the skin)

Areas may feel warm but will be cooled down during and after the treatment to ensure things are comfortable. We will end the treatment with a light soothing moisturiser with calming and anti-bacterial effects. The area should go back to normal within 24-48 hours.
