Why You Should NEVER Sleep In Makeup!
It’s the end of the day, it’s late and you’re tired… I get it - Taking your makeup off can seem like a chore.
BUT, you really shouldn’t make this a daily habit. It can lead to so many skin concerns that you won’t want!
And okay… I’ll admit it.
Yes, I've done this once or twice. BUT… won’t my skin know it the next day!
As a Skin Expert, I’m going to share some of the reasons why shouldn’t be sleeping in your makeup. And hopefully, it’ll encourage you to wash your skin, and sleep makeup-free from now on.
DULL LOOKING SKIN:
During the night, your skin repairs and promotes the growth of new skin cells. Whilst doing this, it will shed and remove old skin cells overnight. (We recommend changing your pillowcases every week because of this.) However, if you’re wearing your makeup to bed, it prevents your skin from doing this. You’ll wake up, and instead of your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated, it will look tired and dull instead.
BACTERIA BUILD-UP
We say about washing your pillowcases weekly. However, if you’re not cleansing your skin before bed, then you will need to be doing this every single day. Throughout the day, your skin will naturally collect bacteria, especially if you touch your face regularly. If you’re not washing your face before bed, this bacteria can sit on your pillows and collect until you wash your pillowcases. Sleeping on this bacteria can cause your skin a whole lot of problems. Trust me - a quick cleanse is 10X easier.
BREAKOUTS:
Sleeping with your makeup on can increase your chance of getting blocked pores. Without a proper cleanse, your makeup will sit in your pores and cause them to become blocked. This will then lead to breakouts and acne prone skin. And, if you’re someone that suffers with problematic skin, then sleeping in your makeup is just asking for a major skin flare-up. A quick double cleanse before bed, is your easiest way of preventing this.
IRRITATION:
Sleeping in your makeup can seriously damage your skin. If you choose to leave your eye makeup on, this can even damage your eyes. Leaving your mascara on overnight can cause damage to the health of your lashes, and you can also increase your chance of developing an eye infection.
OLDER LOOKING SKIN:
Sleeping in your makeup can cause your skin to age. It can cause premature wrinkles and also make your skin look tired. It will boost your exposure to harmful free radicals, which in time, depletes the collagen levels in your skin.
DRY SKIN:
If you’re not properly removing your makeup before going to sleep, no matter how much moisturiser you apply, you’ll wake up with dry skin. Left-over makeup will act as a barrier on your skin and will stop your moisturiser from soaking in properly. Ultimately resulting in dry and flaky skin.
These are just a few reasons of why you SHOULD NEVER sleep with your makeup on.
