How To Reduce Redness, Irritation and Inflammation
Your skin is your body’s largest organ.
You need to be taking care of it every single day to ensure that it stays looking and feeling healthy.
It’s normal for your skin to become sensitive on occasion. And often, this can result in redness, irritation and sometimes inflammation.
Products, hormones, seasons and general day-to-day life can affect your skin.
In today’s blog, I’m going to share some of my top tips for calming irritated skin and keeping it looking fresh.
General Redness/Flushing
If you don’t suffer with a medical condition, but you experience redness/flushing frequently, this simple tip is for you. Applying a clean, cool compress to the area. Cooled/iced water will do the trick. Flushing of the skin usually occurs when your blood vessels widen to allow a larger blood flow. So, applying a cooled compress to the area will reduce your redness, as well as soothing any sensitivity that you may feel.
Fragranced Product Sensitivity
I get it - we are all attracted to products that smell lovely as they give a more “luxurious feel” to our skincare routine. However, on some of us, fragranced products can lead to irritation and sensitivity. Fragrant products can also impair your skin’s ability to renew and plump itself. Meaning that it could have a negative-ageing effect on your skin.
At Pure Emporium, we choose Environ. A medical grade skincare brand which uses a range of powerhouse ingredients, combined with science, to cause amazing changes to your skin.
If you’re a first-time Environ user, we’d recommend booking in for a Skin Analysis Consultation. This in-depth consultation will allow one of our Skin Experts to look at your skin, focus on your skin goals, and come up with a personalised skin plan suited to you.

Revise Your Diet And Lifestyle
Sensitivity, redness and irritation can be a result of your diet and lifestyle. The foods you eat and the environment that you expose your skin to, can all have an impact on how it looks, feels and behaves.
If you notice a “pattern” with your skin’s sensitivity, especially with your diet and lifestyle, then a simple change could make a huge difference. There may be something that is your trigger, and if you know this, it can make your skincare routine a lot simpler.
As well as knowing any triggers, we recommend ensuring that you are drinking 1.5-2L of water per day. Hydrated skin is happy skin.
You can also try to increase your intake of any anti-inflammatory foods. These include leafy greens, fish, low-glycemic fruits and essential oils.
Regular Skin Treatments
If you’re suffering with sensitivity, redness, irritation or inflammation often, then your skin needs some TLC. At Pure Emporium Skin & Laser Clinic, we offer a range of Skin Treatments. Many of which can help to target your irritated skin. Whether your skin is generally irritated, or if you suffer with a skin concern that causes this, then we are here to help you. Using our Phototherapy Dermalux Treatment or our IPL illumiFacial, we can target your skin concerns, as well as calming and soothing your irritated skin. Treatments can be performed more regularly as a course, or you can choose to have maintenance treatments every 6-8 weeks. The decision is yours.
