HOW TO GET RID OF ACNE

Acne. This word means something different to everyone.

We always think of teenage skin when we think of acne, but adult acne is on the rise and it's important we know exactly what we can do to treat it.

Let's start by understanding it...

Oil is created by a sebaceous gland in the lowest layers of the skin. The main purpose of this is to add moisture as well as protection to the outer layer of our skin.

This is a normal bodily function and is imperative for us to have healthy skin. You don’t get gorgeous glowing skin if your oil production is off kilter!

The oil is made in the glands, and flows upwards, and then comes out of your pores.

The sebaceous gland picks up triggers to create and release more or less oil.

The triggers can include: hormones, genetics, environment, UV exposure, over exfoliation, cosmetics, stress, digestion, food intolerance and age.

Acne can occur when the oil becomes too sticky or sluggish and it gets blocked. There could also be a build up of dead skin cells meaning yet another blockage.

PERLEEEZ step away from the harsh granular scrubs. These will not help and will actually impair your skins barrier, something we need in place to treat this best - more oil will be made to help build up your skin layer again. Not ideal.

Depending on the type of acne you have (aka the type of spots you are dealing with) ranging from blackheads, papules, pustules, cystic, nodular, or closed comedones, depends on the best course of action.

If your acne is getting triggered by hormones (the most common reason) it will only ever be CALMED by treating the skin topically - it will not go away altogether by doing this alone. The root cause must be treated via electrical facials and skin supplements to truly help clear the skin due to what’s happening underneath.

This links back to what we always say regarding treating the skin at the lowest layers. Yes, we can make the skin look and feel better at the surface, but if there’s a problem underlying at the bottom of the skin layers, more is needed to treat the problem and stop it being an ongoing concern.

KEY POINTS:

  • products will help to calm and soothe the irritation

  • it's exceptionally important not to aggravate the skin with harsh scrubs or chemicals. Exfoliation needs to be done correctly with the right ingredients.

  • Moisturising is KEY! Yes, you absolutely need moisture to treat this.

  • Vitamin A will help to balance the oil production

  • Supplements will help to counteract the oil production response to hormones, preventing the oil being sticky and sluggish.

  • Electrical facials with the correct products will help to counteract what's happening in the lowest layers of the skin. Anti-bacterial aspects to a facial will help clear the pores of bacteria whilst adding in balancing moisture = balances the oil.

To get to the root cause and treat acne in the best way, we’d recommend the treating the skin from every angle.

This means:

-Taking supplements to treat the skin from the inside out.

-Receiving facial treatments to also treat the lowest layers of the skin.

-Using the correct and recommended topical skincare creams that are medical grade with active ingredients to treat the skin in the best possible way from the top.

-And finally finishing with SPF and high quality makeup products to allow the skin to breathe and function normally on a daily basis without blocking those gorgeous pores of yours!
