MEDICAL GRADE SKINCARE VS HIGH STREET PRODUCTS

You may go to the high street for your shopping, and you might see skincare in the aisles at the supermarket… but what is the true difference between the quality of these products versus what you can purchase at the beauty / aesthetic salon?

If you’re a big fan of skincare, or visit a salon regularly, you have more than likely seen that the brands a salon will provide are different to those you see on the high street or supermarket shelves. At Pure Emporium we do exactly this. We offer medical-grade skincare.

But what really is ‘medical grade skincare’? Why does it differ to high street brands, and why should you consider spending your hard-earned cash on it?

Medial grade skincare is referring to evidence-based products, with a high strength of actives which penetrate layers of the skin through sophisticated delivery systems within the products. It also refers to prescriptive products. Like how you would go and see your doctor, tell them what is wrong with your body, and get a prescription for medicine to help you recover. Medical grade skincare is also prescribed to you, within a beauty or aesthetic environment, by someone trained within that brand to help you with your skincare needs.

This is where medical grade skincare differs to what you can get your hands on within the high street / supermarket. The high street offers much more of a one-size fits all approach, with much lower active ingredients without the scientific backing of how it changes the skin. Everyone is different and their skin needs are different too.

Medical grade skincare can change the way your skin behaves.

It’s a given that you know you ‘should’ be looking after your skin with products. A lot of people will happily spend a lot of money on high street skincare products, swapping and changing, and in a lot of cases there really isn’t much difference when it comes to how much you will pay for items. Even on a budget, Environ offers products that are more affordable and will help you get to where you want to be at a speedier rate.

Retinol and Vitamin A for example, is an anti-aging superhero. The quality and potency of this ingredient differs dramatically depending on the brand and research backing.

Products backed by science will always be better quality than those that aren’t. Results driven skincare carry robust evidence for the active ingredients they include, as well as their doses and formulations – making them effective and predictable about what they can do, which is reaching deeper into the skin!

High street skincare products do not carry the same formulation, and they will sit on the top of dead skin cells, at the surface of the skin. Whilst it will soften these layers and make them feel better for the short term, they aren’t doing anything beneficial to the living layer of skin at a deeper level, meaning it will have very little impact on the skin in the long term.

You may wonder why the high street advertises similar ingredients to those in medical grade skincare brands – does this mean they can do the same thing?

The answer to this is simply, no! It’s all about how much of that ingredient is in the product and how it will absorb deeper.

Vitamin A and Retinol for example, is truly effective in turning back time, fixing, and repairing damaged skin cells. Therefore, if you are wanting anti-ageing this is the ingredient you need. BUT the importance is ensuring the ingredient will absorb to the layers where your skin will make changes and absorb is efficiently. Your skincare professional will guide you with this, as medical grade skincare brands will ensure you know what your skin may react like and introduce is slowly, due to the high quality and potency of the products.

In a nutshell, medical grade skincare outweighs the quality of products you can get on the highstreet.
