BEAUTY TIPS - DITCH THE WIPES

Let’s understand the importance of cleansing… with a cleanser!

Deep down we know that cleansing our face with a cleanser is the best thing for healthier skin… I’m sorry to burst any bubbles, but face wipes are not a suitable alternative. We understand that you may think they’re convenient, quick and easy, but trust us when we say the negatives vastly outweigh the positives. (And, I cleanse my skin faster with a cleanser and clean flannel than I would removing my makeup with any type of wipe!)

If you’re still using wipes on your face, here’s why you should stop:

Harsh Chemicals –

Unfortunately, makeup wipes are full of harsh and harmful chemicals – these not only sound dreadful but they will disrupt the pH balance of your skin as well as your acid mantle. Your acid mantle is a protective layer at the top of your skin that acts like a raincoat – keeping all of the nasty stuff out e.g., dirt, impurities, and seals in the moisture and natural oils that our skin needs to be healthy. The layer is extremely important for the health of your skin and is removed when you use wipes. Not only that, it also strips the skin of its natural oils meaning you are much more likely to have issues with hydration.

Clogged Pores –

Makeup wipes are not manufactured to be used for purely cleansing the skin, they’re designed to break down makeup particles. If you’re wiping your face with a makeup wipe, the chances are a considerable amount of residue from your makeup with remain on the skin, along with grime and oil which can lead to clogged pores, breakouts and even irritation from product on the skin. A lot of wipes include other ingredients that aren’t meant to be left on the skin.

Increased Sensitivity –

Those with sensitive skin or skin concerns that include sensitivty such as rosacea, very oily skin or very dry skin, may experience enhanced irritation from the rubbing action of facial wipes with prolonged use.

Lines and Wrinkles –

We all know that it’s difficult to break down certain eye makeup without the right products. Please do not scrub at your eyes to remove your mascara with wipes. The eye area is so delicate that the heavy rubbing action around the eyes can CAUSE lines and wrinkles as well ending up with sensitivity and soreness around the eye area.

Bad for the Environment –

Wipes are terrible for the environment! Not only do we now need to recycle as much as possible, but the global climate crisis is also now at a point where we should be trying to reduce our waste as much as possible. It can take at least one hundred years for a single makeup wipe to decompose, now that’s crazy.

BABY Wipes – are for Babies.

A little bug bear of mine… and the key is in the name. They are for a BABY. You are an adult. Your skin is completely different. We do not have babies coming in for facial treatments, we treat grown ups. Grown-up skin needs totally different things to babies.

So Why Use A Cleanser?

It’s important to maintain the acid mantle (the natural waterproofing barrier) of the skin and not strip the natural oils from the skin. This is easily achieved by investing in a high quality cleanser and is the very first step in a good skincare routine to have you on the way to healthier skin.

If you don’t have your cleansing routine pinned, the rest is rather wasted. Environ cleansers contain specific ingredients that assist in rehydrating the skin, as well as calming, soothing and refreshing the skin, leaving your face feeling soft and supple. Sounds great, right?!

What We Recommend…

We recommend a cleanser, and a clean flannel or face cloth every time you cleanse. 14 small face flannels will cost you a small amount and last for years. Throw them straight into the washing basket after you’ve cleansed and have a clean one at the ready for next time.

It’s now time to put your wipes in the bin. There are some incredible options for cleansers at Pure Emporium that will be suitable to your skin type too.

If you’re a face wipe fanatic, we would recommend simply swapping over to a cleanser and clean flannel, twice a day. Super simple, and it will take you the same, if not less time to get gorgeous, clean skin.

If you want to know the truly best way to cleanse, we’d recommend double cleansing. Using an oil-based cleanser (Environ Pre-Cleansing Oil is our favourite) to breakdown and remove the makeup… and then follow with the cleanser recommended to your skin type / concerns to actually cleanse the skin to remove the dirt, grime and residue to prevent the pores clogging, as well as prepare your skin for the next steps.

Voila! You’re on your way to healthier skin!
