WHEN SHOULD I START USING ANTI-AGEING PRODUCTS?

The question of when anti-ageing skincare should come into play is a question we are asked frequently.

We hear the statement: 'my mum's skin was amazing so mine will be too!’ frequently too.

I don’t want to be the fun police or anything but this isn’t necessarily the case.

We have the most amount of collagen in our skin when we are born.

Unfortunately, from that point onwards the amount that we create depletes and gets less as we age.

We control 80-90% of the way our skin will age. It’s a fact that 80-90% of the way we age is determined by what we do to the skin. Sun exposure, stress, alcohol, smoking, diet, digestion - all of these things will hugely impact the ageing process long-term.

This means that only 10-20% of the way we age will be down to genetics. So if you’re solely basing how you think you will age on those further up in your family tree… you may well be disappointed.

During your twenties you think your skin is in it’s prime. And it may well be to look at, BUT… majority of skin damage is done in your twenties (in particular sun exposure that we will see the damage of further down the line) and unfortunately all skin damage leads to ageing. This is when we would highly recommend starting with SPF and anti-ageing skincare.

If you're older than this, don’t panic! The best time to start is now!

The sooner you begin with anti-ageing skincare, the better the results will be long term.

Irrespective of age, we urge our clients not to swap and change their skincare like the weather. Long term, this isn't the best for your skin. It can irritate, become unbalanced, and more often than not be treated ineffectively with zero consistency.

Let the products you use be based upon science.

Although it’s important to find what works best for you - if you base your decisions on Facts and Science you’ll never go far wrong.

We believe in science with Environ, and fact based products because they will do what they say it will - because it's medical-grade. Proven stuff. AND they are packed with the ingredients that your skin truly needs and nothing more.

We also highly recommend Advanced Nutrition Programme skincare supplements - working from the inside out to treat a huge proportion of your skin.

The products and supplements we can recommend to you will physically work in the skin at a molecular level.

The first step, especially when you’re younger within your 20’s is introducing a high-quality SPF as we want to keep that sun damage away! This needs to be a broad sunscreen protecting you from UVA and UVB rays, which in turn will reduce premature ageing significantly. (We recommend Environ’s RAD SPF or Jane Iredale’s Mineral Powder with broad sunscreen protection.)

If you’re older than this, depending on the lines and wrinkles present, and how fast you want to see results would depend on which products. The key ingredients would always be Vitamin A, antioxidants, peptides and SPF to help reverse the signs of ageing and prevent it further.

Vitamin A will help repair damaged skin cells, turn back the clock, keep skin as healthy as possible and give you more youthful, healthier skin all round.

Irrespective of your age, we know how to help you overcome your concerns with ageing.
