They definitely aren't a new thing to the industry of skincare, and they certainly aren’t going anywhere!
Peptides are needed and very necessary when it comes to anti-aging skincare.
If you’re looking for younger looking skin, peptides within the formulation are a must.
In a nutshell, peptides are Cell Communicators - telling the skin to do something specific. When applied topically to the skin, they act as little messengers, triggering skin cells to perform specific functions such as building collagen and elastin, along with encouraging skin to look and act younger.

Have you ever wondered when the best time is to start using anti-ageing skincare? We hear the statement: 'my mum's skin was amazing so mine will be too!’ frequently as well. I don’t want to be the fun police or anything but this isn’t necessarily the case…
We control 80-90% of the way our skin will age. It’s a fact that 80-90% of the way we age is determined by what we do to the skin. Sun exposure, stress, alcohol, smoking, diet, digestion - all of these things will hugely impact the ageing process long-term.
This means that only 10-20% of the way we age will be down to genetics. So if you’re solely basing how you think you will age on those further up in your family tree… you may well be disappointed.
Maybe you think you should start using anti ageing skincare when you turn 30? 40? Perhaps when you hit the big 5-0? It's a question we're asked frequently, and if you're not already using specific anti-ageing skincare, you need to keep on reading...
Retinol is a true buzz word when it comes to skincare, but there's a lot of confusion that surrounds it. Let's dig deep into what it actually is.
Fact - Retinol IS VITAMIN A. Yep. It's the same thing.
Vitamin A comes in many different forms. And Retinol is simply one of them.
The many forms derived from Vitamin A ultimately, all of these forms do the exact same thing. Inside the skin, they change to Retinoic Acid.
All of these forms of Vitamin A transform in the skin to Retinoic Acid at different speeds, and it's this that the skin recognises and thrives from to become healthy and helps to repair skin cells as well as a whole host of benefits- It will strengthen the skin, boost immunity, balance oil production and has HUGE anti-ageing benefits.
It’s the way the skin will cope with them that differentiates between them. Let’s dig deeper…
When we talk about face scrubs, we're talking about granular scrubs. These are the scrubs with 'bits' in them, that feel like it’s ‘scrubbing’ your skin.
They are promoted to rid the skin of dead cells and keep the skin clean, healthy and bright.
We don’t agree.
Keeping your skin in it’s optimum condition is so much more important, and we’re here to explain why scrubbing your skin can actually cause more harm than good.
We all know that there are makeup trends that come and go. Some we may even look back at and regret what we did. Thick black liner. Blue mascara. Or maybe even tiny, thin eyebrows. I’m sure we are all guilty of trying a trend that was “fashionable” at the time. But realistically, when we were in the moment, we loved it and so did everyone else. I strongly believe in the power of makeup. The great thing about it is that there are no right or wrongs. You are completely free to do whatever you want and express yourself in any way that you want to. Feeling happy and bubbly, so you want to show that off with some bright colours? DO IT! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
A normal skin type is probably the most uncommon skin type. Since working in the beauty industry, this is not a skin type that I’ve come across very often. Someone with a normal skin type, has almost no problems/concerns with their skin. A normal skin type is known for having a radiant complexion. This skin type will have VERY FEW imperfections, no visible pores and near enough no sensitivity. The skin will not feel dry, nor too oily. It will display a clear and even tone, as well as having a smooth texture. Imagine characteristics found in young children and babies. The skin looks perfect. Normal skin, describes near perfect skin with no-to only a few visible skin imperfections.
Last week, in our previous blog, we covered dry skin. We spoke about what dry skin is, what causes it and how we can help nourish it. We know that there are 3 main skin types. Dry, Oily and Normal. Sometimes, you may have more than one skin type. This is called “Combination” skin.
Today, we are going to look at Oily Skin.
What is an Oily Skin Type?
An oily skin type is exactly what it says. The skin is producing too much oil which results in a constant shiny or greasy appearance. Someone who has an oily skin type should treat it correctly. Incorrect use of products can result in the pores becoming larger and blocked. This can cause blackheads and spots. Other types of acne are also common with this skin type.
Dry skin generally looks and feels dry to touch. The reason for this is because the skin is lacking moisture in the outer layer. The skin can also appear to have cracks in the surface, it can look scaly, red and it can also look tight. Unfortunately, dry skin can be quite sensitive. Meaning that it can often react to certain products easily. Irritation can also be quite common with a dry skin type, causing it to be quite itchy. If itching or scratching happens, this can cause the skin to be inflamed.
The SCIENCE behind it…
Your genetic makeup plays a part in your skin type. If you suffer from dry skin, it is likely that you are genetically inclined to having an underactive sebaceous gland. This is the gland that produces and provides oil for the skin. An underactive gland will mean that your skin is not getting enough oil to retain moisture and build a protective barrier. This barrier is vital when keeping your skin safe from all environmental factors. All these of course are so important when wanting to have happy, healthy and hydrated skin.
We know that we need to be wearing an SPF every single day of the year. When we are inside, or outside. Whether the sun is beaming, or the rain is pouring, we still need to be protecting our skin with an SPF. There are so many different types of SPF, and I’m sure you will be assuming that the higher the sun protection factor, the better. However, this is not entirely true.
Sun protection can be purchased as either a physical SPF or a chemical SPF. Now, you’re probably wondering what’s the difference and how do you know which is better? Well, let’s get into the properties of these products and how they work. Hopefully, this will make it a lot more clear for you.
Chemical Sun Protection
Chemical SPF’s are typically those that are purchased from our high street stores. Usually much more affordable, but how much are they actually protecting our skin?
Here at Pure Emporium, we believe that comfort is key. When you are visiting the salon, the most important thing to us is that you are comfortable and enjoying your treatment with us the best that you can. Obviously, our priority is to get good results with any treatment, but we want you to be relaxed and happy with your experience whilst you are in the salon.
So, we have introduced a BRAND NEW policy into the salon. And yes, we are taking this one very seriously. COMFORT IS KEY, so we are pleased to introduce a “Comfort Policy”.
Now, this isn’t like a normal policy. There are no “terms and conditions” that you as a client must agree to. However, we’d like you to read through them, and know that all of these things are down to you, and if you wish to request something whilst you’re in the salon to make your visit more enjoyable, then please just ask!
We all want different things in life, but one of things we all want is beautiful skin.
We are not all given the gift of ‘great skin’. But what does that term even mean? What do you define ‘great skin’ to be? You may interpret that in a different way to someone else, but ‘great skin’ is however YOU want it to look and feel compared to how it is now.
What Causes Our Skin To Change?
Many things can change the way that our skin behaves, which all play a part in how it looks and feels.
Some of these factors happen inside the body, and there is nothing that we can do to stop it. For example, our hormone levels can become unbalanced which can change how oily or dry our skin is, as well as the plumpness of our skin.
‘How do I get healthier hair?!’ and ‘How do I prevent damage’ Is not only a question we hear, but something we talk about a LOT in the hair salon. With colouring, highlights, and all sorts of other hair treatments, it’s always important to remember the fundamentals for keeping your hair healthy above anything else.
When you get your hair done in the salon, you’ve invested in your hair. We want you to know how to love your hair, not just on ‘hair salon day’ but everyday.
Regardless of your desired hair style or colour, healthy hair trumps the lot…. Every. Single. Time. The healthier your hair is, the better it looks, the better it shines, and the faster it grows too!

Let’s understand the importance of cleansing… with a cleanser! Deep down we know that cleansing our face with a cleanser is the best thing for healthier skin… I’m sorry to burst any bubbles, but face wipes are not a suitable alternative. If you use them, you may think they’re convenient, quick and easy, but trust us when we say the negatives vastly outweigh the positives. (And, I cleanse my skin faster with a cleanser and clean flannel than I would removing my makeup with any type of wipe!) Here is a professional beauty tip for healthier skin - ditch the face wipes! If you’re still using wipes on your face, and want to know the reasons why we would highly recommend that you stop, here’s why…
You may go to the high street for your shopping, and you might see skincare in the aisles at the supermarket… but what is the true difference between the quality of these products versus what you can purchase at the beauty / aesthetic salon?
If you’re a big fan of skincare, or visit a salon regularly, you have more than likely seen that the brands a salon will provide are different to those you see on the high street or supermarket shelves. At Pure Emporium we do exactly this.
But what really is ‘medical grade skincare’? Why does it differ to high street brands, and why should you consider spending your hard-earned cash on it, when you can get products cheaper in town?
You get those days where you just don’t operate at full capacity, just like when your iPhone is almost out of battery and it keeps freezing on the same screen.
BUT, YOU AREN’T ON YOUR OWN… It’s something that we are all susceptible to.
So what can we do to help ourselves when all we want to do is lie in bed all day, not achieve anything, or head straight to the treat cupboard and eat a massive bar of chocolate and then feel unnecessarily guilty about it afterwards?!
